VBS update

Boys and girls, Hit the Trail and take the VBS Challenge! We want you to invite your friends to VBS this summer. You can pick up as many VBS registration fliers as you want at the Welcome Desk at church and use them as invitations to give to your friends.

Reminder: VBS will be Sunday to Thursday, August 5-9 from 6:30-8:30 PM. This year VBS will be open to any families who wish to have their preschool thru Kindergarten children attend. Any children born before September 1, 2009 thru entering Kindergarten in fall 2012 are welcome to join us for preschool VBS.

Our tradition of Giving Near and Giving Far will continue this year. This year for Giving Near we encourage boys and girls to bring in non-perishable food items for the local food-shelf. We will be giving out more details on what to bring at a later date. For Giving Far we will be collecting money to donate to Global Fingerprints for their School Toolz initiative. More information about School Toolz can be found at www.efca.org/vbs. We are excited to see how God will work through each one of the boys and girls attending Son Rise National Park VBS this summer!

Registration for VBS is open now. You can register online at www.ssefc.org under the Children’s Ministries/VBS tab or you can pick up a form at the Welcome Desk. If you are a VBS team member and have children who will be attending please make certain you register them.

If you are interested in serving at VBS, please contact Jeff Larson at jeff@ssefc.org. We are in need of a leader for our Busy Beaver Crafts. We are also collecting empty paper towel rolls to be used for one of our crafts. Please drop them off in the box marked by the Welcome Desk. Thank you!

We are looking forward to a cool, cool summer of learning about God, the one who, “will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 4:19).

Jubilee clarification

The previous Jubilee update was written by Rick Ronchek of Christ Church. His name was accidently left out in the post. Next Jubilee planning meeting: Tuesday, May 15 @ 6:30 pm at Christ Church in Apple Valley.

Jubilee 2012 Update

The following is an update from the last Jubilee planning meeting. There will be some changes for the event and all is in development at this time. Please consider getting involved. Next planning meeting is Tuesday, May 15 at 6:30 pm at Christ Church.

Key Topics Discussed

We are going to pursue a two-prong effort to 1) have the Jubilee Event in September as we traditionally have had in the past, along with some modifications to our process to keep the event simpler for planning and expenses, as well as 2) pursue what God would have for us in terms of a 365-Day facility that we are terming the "Dream Center."  I have broken down each of those targeted visions below.

Jubilee Vision 2012 Updates

  • A broad consensus to move more towards a Jubilee Celebration 2012 that is centered on sharing the Gospel vs. centered on distributing resources.
  • We have confirmation from the city of Apple Valley that we can go ahead and plan to use the water park facility in the similar process as we did in 2011.
  • Grocery area will be simpler and possibly limited to just serving toiletries and distributed from a truck vs. a tent; the idea of one tent for clothes and food vs. 2.
  • Expand the Children's area and make it more centered on kids' fun and blessing for little children.
  • Have a focus on consumable food and music that people can spend more time listening to the message of the Gospel.
  • We have a real need for more leadership in Jubilee 2012 to give an effort from many leaders vs. a few. I am going to recommend that we break up our leadership into five Leadership Teams to make our leadership simpler and easier to share responsibilities and work together in larger groups.
1. Reach Team - How are we going to touch people for Christ to extend a healing touch the day of and 365 days of the year?
2. Facilities / Logistics - Tents, parking, security, garbage, setup/take down.
3. Resources - Anything that is being given away at Jubilee including clothes, food, household, dental services, photography
4. Kid's Corner - Expanded focus on providing a blessing to all the children that come and attend Jubilee.
5. Entertaining and Serving Team- Including any food being served, music, jumpers, clowns, snow cones.
  • We have eliminated the storage of all the Jubilee materials from being stored in Prior Lake and have moved them to Dave Krausert's warehouse in Burnsville.
  • We have picked up approximately 80-100 large bags of winter clothes from Hope Church in Richfield with all of the tags and nicely organized for Jubilee 2012.
  • We may have a donation of new toys (several pallets) from Mike Lynch for distribution at Jubilee.
  • Ty Willems is going to lead reaching out to other pastors to encourage their church congregations to get involved with leaders and support of the vision / mission.
  • Rick / Ty are planning to meet with Mayor Mary at the City of Apple Valley to gain support of our vision.
  • Next Planning meeting is scheduled for 6:30 PM on Tuesday May 15th at Christ Church. All are encouraged to come and participate.
Dream Center Vision
We will also be expecting that God will provide us with a 365-day-a-year facility south of the river located in great proximity to the majority of churches, termed the "Dream Center" that we can do various ministries from including:
·        24-hour prayer center for people, and people to come for prayer needs.
·        healing ministry for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
·        serving meals for people.
·        resource center that can point people to other churches and ministries such as Amnion, Dakota Resources, Housing.
·        distribution of resources such as clothes, food, household items, toiletries.
·        gathering for all the Christian Churches south of the river.
·        connection point for businesses that want to serve the community.
·        training facility that can we can provide training for people to learn skills such as labor skills, laying tile, drywall, or technical computer skills that will enable people to enter the workforce.
·        we may be connected to facilities that provide overnight housing and family facilities, but this initial Dakota County location would not provide those facilities
This is the high-level overview of where we are at from the three meetings we have had so far. I look forward to getting input from each of the teams this next meeting, 6:30 PM on Tuesday May 15th at Christ Church.
