Here's another opportunity to love the world around us. Make cards for Bundles of Love, a local organization that provides clothing and bedding for newborn babies whose mother’s have no other means of support. They are in need of cards to include with their bundles as a way of providing encouragement to new mothers. Let’s get together to make and assemble cards for this ministry on Saturday, February 11 from 10 am to Noon in the Fellowship Hall at SSEFC. Questions? Here's an opportunity to "Go Love Our World" and continue our budding relationship with Dakota Woodlands in Eagan. On Saturday, January 21, we will be delivering the sheets, blankets and towels our church body has been collecting and the fleece blankets the women made at the Christmas Social. We will also be showing the staff and residents love by presenting them with fruit baskets. If you would be willing to donate fruit (apples, bananas or oranges), please call or e-mail Tami Peterson to let her know. We need the fruit dropped off in the SSEFC church kitchen by Friday evening, January 20. We are also in need of a few people to help deliver all of these items Saturday morning the 21st. Men, women and teens will be discussing a special book choice centered on a missions theme for Missions Involvement Week. The book is Out of Ashes which deals with urban missions in Los Angeles. Copies of this book are available in the SSEFC library for $1.

NEW Women's Bible Study!

Session 2 of the Tuesday morning women's Bible Study is starting up January 17 with a kick-off brunch. This study runs through April 10, 2012 and it meets every Tuesday from 9:30 - 11 am in the Journey Room at SSEFC. We will be studying the book, Lies Women Believe: And The Truth That Sets Them Free by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. The cost is $15 for the book and $20 per family for childcare if needed (birth - K). The evening women's study continues to meet every 1st and 3rd Monday and will continue to study the book Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver. Thanksgiving is Coming!

South Suburban is hosting a traditional Thanksgiving meal, Thursday, November 24. ALL ARE WELCOME! And it's never too late to join us! We have a nice group coming together to celebrate and we would love even more. We will gather around 3 pm or so and begin the big meal at 4 pm. The turkey and all the plates, silverware, etc. will be provided. If you so wish, you can offer a side dish or dessert to share.

Around 6 pm, we will gather in the Journey Room for some games, desserts and the family movie, Secretariat. If you can't make the meal, please feel free to join us for dessert and fun in the Journey Room.

This Thanksgiving celebration is for all ages, couples, singles, families and people from the community. If you know of some neighbors, etc. that need a place to celebrate, please bring them!

Our next Book Club will meet Thursday, December 1, 7 pm at Ring Mountain Café in Eagan. We will be discussing the novel Love Amid the Ashes by Mesu Andrews. Visit Mesu's website for discussion questions and free Bible study questions for a deeper study of Job. Mesu's testimony and devotionals are very inspiring. Mesu wrote us a letter when she sent bookmarks: "May you hear God speak in every storm, and may you be certain of His love even when life seems like a pile of ashes. In His Arms With You, Mesu." Be sure to stop by the library or the Women’s Ministry bulletin board at SSEFC to pick up one of Mesu's bookmarks.

Thank you, SSEFC, for stepping up and being the second most represented church with volunteers at Jubilee--approximately 100 of you planned for months and showed up that day to give of your time and love. Moms In Touch Prayer Groups Meeting

School is underway now and there are many Moms In Touch groups that are up and running in the surrounding south-metro area. Visit http://www.momsintouch.org/ for more information about this wonderful organization that gathers moms together to pray for their kids and their schools. Moms In Touch is used by God to have a huge impact in our community for Christ!

There is a list on all three Women's Ministry bulletin boards at SSEFC of current MIT groups that are meeting in the surrounding area. Please check it out and attend a prayer meeting. To find out if your child's school has an active MIT group, you can visit http://www.momsintouch.org/ or call your school directly and the secretary may know.

Jubilee Needs....

At the last Jubilee planning meeting a huge need was expressed for 4-roll packages of toilette paper and 64-100 oz. size bottles of laundry detergent. These types of items are not covered through food stamps so they are like “gold” to individuals and families in need. So far SSEFC has collected 50 bottles of detergent and it would be wonderful to move that number up into the hundreds. The Jubilee event is coming up Saturday, September 17 from 10am to 3pm. So as you grocery shop in the coming days, please consider putting these items in your cart to donate. You can place your donations in the marked bins at SSEFC. If you would rather not shop, please consider offering a monetary donation. You can write a check to SSEFC and put “Jubilee” on the memo line. Thank you so much for your prayers for Jubilee and your considered involvement. Sunday, August 21, 2011 was a wonderfully fun, blessed and tasty day! Thank you to all the people of SSEFC who planned such a great church picnic. It was a fabulous time for all ages! How wonderful to celebrate the 3 baptisms of dear young men. Their testimonies were so well done and inspirational. All the food, games, prizes were fantastic! And the pie contest was a hit! Congrats to all the participants and thanks again picnic planners and all the SSEFC church family that attended and made the day so fun and memorable. Let’s bless our guests at Jubilee with some yummy deserts! Please sign up at the Jubilee table in the hallway area at SSEFC to bring pies, bars, cakes or cookies for the Jubilee event on Saturday, September 17 from 10 am – 3 pm. VBS is Sunday – Thursday, July 24- 28 from 6:30-8:30 pm! It's coming fast folks!

All VBS Staff: We will meet to decorate for VBS on Friday, July 15 from 10 am-2 pm. We need your help bringing the beach to our building! Come when you can; lunch will be provided. This is a great way for you to get involved if you can't help out the actual week of VBS.

Our last SonSurf VBS staff orientation is Thursday, July 14 at 7-8 pm at SSEFC. Please attend if you have not yet attended an orientation.

Parents, please don’t forget to register your kids for VBS! Use the online registration at ssefc.org or visit the VBS table in the foyer for a registration form.

Kids, catch the wave and invite a friend to VBS! Be sure to bring them a registration form as an invite! This is what it is all about...OUTREACH...please bring your friends!

We still need snack and craft donations! Visit the VBS table in the foyer at SSEFC for more information. VBS is in need of donated craft materials. Flip-flops and other craft materials can be dropped off in the labeled bin in the foyer at SSEFC. Other craft supply needs include tie-dye kits, packs of white t-shirts, and small spiral memo pads. See the VBS craft supply poster in the foyer if you are interested in donating an item.

This time we are going to bless the shoppers at Sam’s Club in Apple Valley with the love of Jesus. We will be giving out cookies as customers exit the store and then we will help them load their groceries into their cars. This G.L.O.W. event will be on Friday, May 6 from 5-8pm. We need people to help at the event and people to donate cookies. Children helpers need to be in 3rd grade or older and with a parent to participate at the site. We encourage you to attend with friends and family to join our hearts with people across America who will be praying for our nation. Pastors from different churches south of the river will lead us in prayer for our national government, military personnel, media, business, education, churches, and the family. James 5:16 says, The fervent prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.

Barb Rambeck needs COOKIES for this May 5th National Day of Prayer celebration. If you are able to provide 2-3 dozen cookies, please contact Barb at 952-894-9396. Only one willing person has contacted her so far. Even if you are not able to attend the prayer celebration, you could make cookies, mark them for Day of Prayer and leave them in the church kitchen. Great Turn Out for Church Luncheon!

What a great turn out for the church-wide Fellowship Luncheon on Palm Sunday! It was a wonderful time to talk and enjoy a meal together. Thank you to everyone who came (around a 120+ people!) and thank you for sharing your tasty food!

Let's have more of these Fellowship Luncheons! Organizing a luncheon is not a lot of work...especially when you share it with others. The first thing you do is contact Jacque in the office and pick a date that works on the calendar to have the Fellowship Hall. Then you advertise via the bulletin (and this blog). Maybe your small group, Sunday School class, or ministry team would like to host a luncheon? Or you could simply grab another family and together take it on. You can have fun with it and create a theme or not....So consider grabbing another family and help get another church-wide luncheon on the calendar! Fellowship Luncheons not only provide opportunities for us as a church family to connect and grow closer, but the luncheons could provide you with outreach opportunities to your friends, neighbors and family as a way to invite them to church....and a free lunch. :)

Choir Singers Needed for Palm Sunday & Easter!

We just had our first choir practice Thursday night this past week and we need more people! We need ladies, men, teen youth, altos, sopranos, bass, tenors,.....Please consider joining us and/or encouraging others to participate. Palm Sunday is April 17 and the choir is singing 2 choral pieces and then helping to lead the congregation in other worship songs. Easter is April 24 and we will be doing the same. If you will be gone either Palm Sunday or Easter Sunday, but will be around for one of them, please join us still! Practices will be Thursdays from 7-9 pm (April 7, 14, 21) with 2 Saturday practices (April 16 & 23 at 10 am). Don't worry if you can't make all the practices; join us anyway. Jubilee 2011 has a date! It will be Saturday, September 17 at the Apple Valley Water Park (parking lot) from 10 am to 3 pm. This is a one-day outreach event to serve the people in our community who are in need, but it takes a ton of planning to pull it off. So please prayerfully consider getting involved in its planning in addition to the actual day of the event. The next Jubilee Planning Meeting will be Tuesday, April 5 at 7 pm at River Valley Church. There are many areas that need your time and leadership. At SSEFC, we are currently collecting donations of the following items to give away at the event. Look for collection bins in the hallways of SSEFC marked "Jubilee". We are collecting: Shampoo/Conditioner, Deodorant, Toothpaste, Bars of Soap, 4-pack of Toilet Paper, and 100 oz. Laundry Detergent. There is so much we can do and so much we can give to be a blessing to our community.

It's a promise...Summer will come! So please mark your calendars for SonSurf Vacation Bible School. Join us for this super fun beach bash SUNDAY - THURSDAY, July 24 - 28 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. There will be lots of ways you can serve and the kids in your life (going into grades 1-6) and their friends will have an awesometacular time! There will be plenty more details to come. We will meet at 9:30 am in the Journey Room to kick off our new session and introduce our new study Becoming a Woman of Simplicity by Cynthia Heald. The cost of the book is $8.00. Childcare is available from birth through Kindergarten. Newcomers are always welcome. Just come to the study on the 11th to register or you can register online. 2. Mondays (1st & 3rd) evenings of the month. Meet at 6:30 pm in room E255. We will be continuing our study of Jerry Bridges' book, The Practice of Godliness. You may register online or just show up. Have you heard of Jubilee? In short, it's a phenomenal opportunity to be Jesus' hands and feet to our surrounding community in need. SSEFC is planning to bless people in our community who work on Christmas Eve by bringing them donuts and a note of appreciation. How can you help? Bring one, two, three (or more) dozen donuts to church on Christmas Eve. We will have a table to drop them off. After the Christmas Eve Service (at 5 pm), your family can sign up to take a dozen to a specific place – hospital, fire station, police station, convenience store – along with a note that we will provide telling them thank you and to have a Merry Christmas from South Suburban. Due to the snow storm last week, the Christmas Kids' Choir was unable to lead us in worship....But they will be singing this coming Sunday the 19th in both services! A reminder that there will be a Thanksgiving Eve Service at SSEFC on Wednesday, November 24 at 7 pm. Come for a wonderful time of worship and a chance to share our gratitude for all the Lord has done and will do! Please invite your family, friends and neighbors to come!

Do you have a place to celebrate Thanksgiving? Maybe you can't get out of town or have to work on Friday?....Please consider joining your church family for Thanksgiving dinner in the Fellowship Hall on Thursday, November 25 at 4 pm. We will start to gather around 3 pm. So far there are 20+ that are coming! Turkey and ham is provided, but you are encouraged to bring a side-dish or dessert to share.
